Website

After messing with the margins I finally figured out how to get three boxes at the bottom side by side. I wanted to capture the image of the online comics he does so I put a talking bubble in the middle and referenced his website in the overall layout.

My idea is to have the title at the top with a picture of scott kurtz on the right. underneath would be the paragraph about him. under that i wanted to put 3 of his characters almost like a comic strip.

Scott Kurtz

The artist I chose for the website project was Scott Kurtz. He is an American cartoonist who began creating strips at the University of North Texas. His first strip was called Captain Amazing. In 1998 Scott Kurtz began designing on the web with his first comic strips Wedlock and Samwise. His most recent project is PvP or Player vs. Player. On his website he also keeps a blog about his comics and the gaming world as well.

Ch 1-4

There are different types of styles for creating a website. The first stylesheet is called an internal stylesheet.IT is placing code within the html document. External stylesheets link the CSS code into html elements. For CSS syntax you are given a selector, property, and values. You can have multiple properties and values. Inheritance is when one element changes. You can combine selectors. Classes all you to change elements within the same html element. Classes start with a . Ids are more for layouts and classes text. Ids start with # key.

html doc

This is my first time learning how to use html. I understand it pretty well but I think when it comes to be a whole list of things it might get more frustrating. I am excited to use this more and learn more about creating web pages.

Childrens Travels #2

Childrens Travels #1

Behind the Magazine

My magazine is a magazine targeted toward children who want to go to fun, exciting, and adventurous places. I want it to be targeted toward children who want to travel. They can then show their parents where they want to go.
Name:
Children's Travels
I think this works because it would be the children who are picking where they travel. It has a ring to it that light and just for kids.
The masthead will be medium sized most likely in a san-serif font because I want it to look modern, something that kids will want to be a part of. I have a few font ideas on my moodbaord.
The images I'll have on my cover will be from the different places kids should go and images of some kids actually at these places.
I think I'll use sell lines that are appealing to children. I'll probably use things from these sights. I might also do like a top 10 places to go as a kid.

Magazine MoodBoard

My idea is to do a travel magazine for kids so I have a bunch of places that kids should visit. They range from educational to fun. I have a few typefaces on the top to have that playful sophisticated look.

Church

I decided to go with the church because I have used sketchup before but I realized it has been awhile since I used it and I couldn't remember everything.

Seed Packets

This is my final project. My idea was to have plants that recycle different items. They recycle plastic, paper, and lightbulbs. I found this project to be very helpful in developing my skills in illustrator. I learned a lot about the mesh and gradients tools and found it to be easier to use by then end of this project. My overall color scheme could have been changed to make them connect. There seems to be too many colors going on with the background and the name.

Sunday, October 2, 2011

This one was difficult because I had to get the mesh tool just right so the flower wouldn't blend in with the shape in the middle. I wanted to make it an interesting composition but I think the colors are too much and I should have gone with a lighter color.

I saw that this seedpacket didn't have enougn depth on it and I wanted to add more flowers to fill the piece.

For this first design I tried using the gradient tool but it made my flower look flat. I redid it to make it more 3D. I also had feedback to change the typeface because I had too many typefaces on one packet.

Mood Board

My theme for this project is to create three seed packets that represent recycling. Each one will be relating to plastic/glass, paper/cardboard, and lightbulbs. The plant essentially eats the products and recycles them. I want each plant to be an exotic plant that most people won't know about and to show it eating the items. My mood board is showing the different colors like green and blue that I will be using and pictures of the different objects that will be recycled.

My Map

One row I found interesting was the one about instruments. I think I could do something that grows instruments. I was also thinking about the row with discipline in it. I could make a seed packet that has grow your own vegetables that taste good so that kids will eat their vegetables. I also think it might be a good idea to go with the kids idea. Maybe grow your own toys for your children and I could have three different toys to play with.

Logos

I think this exercise was goo to get to know the tools. I found the apple to be the easiest because it was a simple shape and we had to cut it up in colors. I did find it hard to sharpen edges even with the anchor points. I think the most difficult one for me was the virgin logo because I had to go around the letters with the pen tool and it was hard to be precise.

Black Dots Assignment

I wanted to create something abstract that showed movement through the dots so I decided to do a spiral. After playing with it for a little I decided to add the small dots at each corner as a way of drawing one's eye to the middle of the piece.

Literacy for Mac Summary

The first video talks about laptops and desktop computers. Laptops are also known as notebook computers and are made more for portability. Laptops come with a mouse, keyboard and screen all in one so you don't need to plug anything in. If you are in need of portability then a laptop computer is more suitable than a desktop. Desktop computers refers to computers that sit on or next to a work station. They are not designed to be portable but are more upgradable. You will also need a monitor along with the computer. The mac desktop gives you the most external ports for adding other devices. The macbook and macbook pro are capable of hooking another monitor to them. There's also a device called the iPad. The iPad is a touchscreen device and you need to touch it to operate it. the iPad should not be your only computer device because there are some things it cannot do that computers can and you have a better workspace to do it in.

The second video is about 5 things that are able to work in all applications. The first of the 5 is the File Menu. The file menu contains things like new, save, open, close, and print. These work for mac and pc users. It also includes cut, copy, and paste. There something known as a clipboard which stores cut and copy text. Undo and redo (repeat) are also a part of the file menu. If you want to get something back you can press undo. Repeat will change it back before you undo. The fourth thing is the preference settings. In windows preferences can sometimes be found as properties or options. It could be under edit or tools. The fifth feature is the help button. it can show updates and help you navigate through applications.
